At ETR, science is foundational, so we looked at whether research shows that combining sports and/or physical activity with STEM benefits youth. We dug into the existing research (74 papers!) and found some evidence that adding in elements of sports and other physical activity can increase students’ interest in STEM by helping them see the relevance and improve students’ math learning by making a physiological or cognitive connection with learning. Here are a few exciting examples:  Football STEM Challenge - Sports Science STEM Activity - Engineering Design Sphero Sports is an innovative sports and robotics solution which advances STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) participation and learning. It teaches today’s students the critical STEM skills needed for the modern-day world and future tech-economy. The unique excitement of this robotics programme is that Sphero inspires students via coding passes, programming dribbles, and scoring goals, all done via a very cool programmable robotic ball!

Activity: STEM campers will use observation skills and critical thinking to determine which parts of the shoe make the shoe great, and design a shoe that will help Captain America save his feet and the world! 3. Sports physical therapist “The part of Future GoalsTM that clicked most for my students,” says Woods, “were the videos that share stories of professionals engaged in STEM careers. Kids really connect with stories of real people doing interesting jobs they’ve never considered. Kids need to know that what they’re learning about can lead to amazing career opportunities.”

OKLAHOMA CITY (August 4, 2022) — Cheers and excitement filled the Devon Lawn at Myriad Gardens during an all-employee tailgate. The fanfare came on the heels of a transformative announcement: Devon is bringing together the state’s two largest universities to help instill a lifelong love of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) in young sports fans. Find a camp near you: Playing sports, and watching athletic competitions and great sporting events such as the Olympics or the Super Bowl are part of almost everyone's life! While I enjoy the excitement of it all, I am also reminded that there is more that goes into athletics than just good entertainment. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), is present in every aspect of these beloved games. This truth provides a wonderful opportunity to get kids involved in an early love of STEM.
