World Economic and Social Survey 2018: Frontier Technologies for Sustainable Development—a flagship publication of UN DESA generated considerable interest in new technologies and their development impacts. Inspired by this strong interest, the Economic Analysis and Policy Division is highlighting the work of its staff in quarterly reviews on frontier technologies. The series delves deeper into specific aspects of a new technology, identifying challenges, raising questions—and answering a few—while motivating policy research in UN DESA and beyond. Liquid water evaporates, sending water vapor into the atmosphere. When the water vapor reaches the cooler air in the upper atmosphere, it condenses back into water droplets, forming clouds.
