Just in time for Earth Day came the world debut of thirteen sculptures of the world’s most endangered species, including the humpback whale and lowland gorilla. This is another collaboration between Lego artist Nathan Sawaya and photographer Dean West; the Lego animals are displayed before giant images of their natural habitats.

Attention to detail is important when it comes to nailing a LEGO masterpiece. Keep yourselves entertained – and your eyes peeled – while exploring the exhibit’s pop culture figurines such as King Kong at the top of the Empire State Building. Psst … if you look closely, you’ll notice that King Kong has the character Ann Darrow in his hands – just like in the movie! What can I do to resolve this? On Sunday, my daughter and I had the opportunity to preview the new exhibit called The Art of the Brick at The California Science Center in Los Angeles.  Hailed as “the world’s largest display of LEGO art”, The Art of the Brick consists of one million LEGO bricks transformed into more than 100 sculptures by artist Nathan Sawaya.   I was absolutely amazed to see what you can create with LEGO! 

On the first floor, Gallery 1 features engaging traveling exhibitions as well as special exhibitions created by our own Museum curators. Past exhibitions have included: A New Moon Rises, Dinosaur Discoveries, National Geographic’s “50 Greatest Photographs,” The Mysteries of the Mayan Medallion, Clyde Butcher’s Cuba, A Window to the World, and more! The museum is a great place to learn about science and the natural world.

The exhibition also includes a swath of intricate LEGO models of notable innovation and technology throughout history such as the 1938 Volkswagon Beetle and a 4M-tall Space Shuttle. And if all that building has you wanting more, you’ll be able to pick up a souvenir from the LEGO certified store that’s part of the exhibition.
